Residents of Ho experiencing persistent low voltage issues can expect relief soon, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured customers that the problem—traced to transmission challenges from GRIDCo—will be resolved by April 22, Accra Street Journal reports.
Residents and businesses in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region have been grappling with persistent low voltage and frequent power outages, particularly during evening hours. The situation has sparked anger among affected customers, with some threatening legal action against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over potential damage to their electrical appliances.
The power supply disruptions have disrupted businesses and households across the Volta Regional capital, prompting concerns among affected communities. Kokompe, a suburb of Ho, has been among the hardest hit, experiencing daily power cuts that sometimes last for days. The inconsistent power supply has disrupted household routines and local businesses, fueling widespread frustration across the municipality.
“Dear ECG, if any of my gadgets spoil because of this low current thing, I will sue you oo,” wrote Fred Asare, a resident of Ho, on an ECG-related media platform.
“You caused destruction to my fridge yesterday,” added another resident, Kofi Gamor.
ECG Responds, Points to GRIDCo Supply Issues
Following mounting public pressure and growing online complaints, The Volta Regional Office of ECG has issued a formal statement on the situation. According to the company, the cause of the low voltage and power fluctuations does not originate from its own distribution system, but rather from a power supply issue at GRIDCo’s Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point.
“We want to clarify that the root cause of this situation is not due to ECG’s distribution of power, but rather originates from GRIDCO’s supply from the Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point,” the statement read.
ECG assured customers that they are actively working with GRIDCo to resolve the issue and that scheduled maintenance to correct the problem will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
According to the statement signed by the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer, Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, ECG says its technical teams are patrolling and monitoring their own network to rule out any additional faults.
“While this may give the impression that we are not engaging with our customers, please be rest assured that we are committed to resolving the situation effectively,” the company said, asking for patience and understanding from affected customers.
Residents, however, remain watchful as they wait to see whether the promised improvements will materialize after the scheduled maintenance.
