Fuel Prices Drop Slightly Across Stations In Ghana

Accra, Ghana — Fuel prices at the pumps have seen a slight drop this week, following adjustments made by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) around April 16. This marks the second consecutive reduction in fuel prices this month, providing some relief to consumers after recent hikes. The price drops are attributed to a steady decline in global crude oil prices, offering a much-needed break for motorists.

According to industry reports, petrol prices have decreased by 1.5%, now averaging GH¢14.88 per litre. Diesel, meanwhile, has seen a smaller drop of 0.3%, bringing it to GH¢15.50 per litre. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is currently priced at GH¢17.45 per kilogram. These reductions come after fuel prices saw an uptick earlier in April, with petrol reaching GH¢15.20 and diesel going up to GH¢15.35 per litre.

Across various stations, fuel prices show some variation. For instance, Goil and TotalEnergies are both selling petrol at GH¢14.99 per litre, while Shell offers a slightly lower price of GH¢14.74. When it comes to diesel, Goil and TotalEnergies are charging GH¢15.42 per litre, while GASO offers the lowest price at GH¢14.95 per litre. These variations are in line with the broader trend of a slight reduction across the market, reflecting the impact of falling global oil prices.

The recent price adjustments come in the context of a global decline in crude oil prices, which have dropped from around $72 to approximately $64 per barrel since February. This fall is largely due to weaker demand forecasts and ongoing global economic shifts, providing some relief to Ghanaian consumers after a period of price hikes.

In a broader context, Ghana has improved its standing in fuel affordability across Africa. The country has moved up from 13th to 12th place among nations with the lowest fuel prices. As of April 2025, the average price of petrol in Ghana stands at $1.029 per litre, highlighting the nation’s relatively favorable position in comparison to other African countries.
