Ghana Card Registration Centres

Ghana Card Registration Centres: Locations, Requirements and Services

The National Identification Authority (NIA) runs a network of registration centres across Ghana, but the options are not all the same. You have standard district offices, premium centres for faster service, and special arrangements for institutions or households. Here is how the centres are organised and what you need to know before you go.

Standard District Offices: The Default Option

These are the NIA’s regular offices found in districts across the country. They handle first-time registration, card replacement, and updates. First-time registration for Ghanaians aged 15 and above is generally free at these offices, though there is a statutory fee for card replacement.

You can find a full list of NIA Regional and District Offices, including their digital addresses, on the NIA website. For example, in the Greater Accra Region, offices include the Regional Office near the AMA office, Ablekuma Central at the GRA office in Mataheko, and Ablekuma South at the GRA office near Old Melcom in Kaneshie.

Premium Centres: Faster Service for a Fee

If you want to avoid queues, the NIA operates premium centres that offer expedited service. These are not free and often require an appointment, which you can book via register.nia.gov.gh.

The Greater Accra Region has three premium locations:

  • Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (near Legon City Campus), digital address GA-076-0326

  • CalBank, Ridge, digital address GA-204-8950

  • Adenta DVLA Office, digital address GD-023-2693

Other regions also have premium centres. For instance, the Ashanti Region’s centre is at Adum Ministries (AK-037-4315), and the Central Region’s is at the Passport Building in Aboom, Cape Coast (CC-006-1433).

Mobile Registration for Groups

If you have a group of at least seven applicants—such as a household, institution, or organisation—the NIA can come to you. This service covers first-time registration, card replacement, and updates. There is a fee of GH¢410 per person for the registration activity, plus logistics costs calculated based on the distance from the NIA Head Office in Accra.

Where to Check Before You Go

Because office locations and operating hours can change, the most reliable step is to check the official NIA website at www.nia.gov.gh for the most current list of centres. You can also contact the NIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate on 0302999306 or 0302999309 for enquiries.
