Senegal’s Lionesses of Teranga kicked off their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in emphatic fashion, sweeping aside DR Congo with a 4-0 win at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, Morocco.
According to Accra Sports News, first-half braces from forwards Mama Diop and Nguenar Ndiaye were enough to put the match beyond reach and send Senegal straight to the top of Group A.
First-Half Brilliance
The Senegalese wasted no time imposing themselves, with Diop blasting in the opener in the 5th minute following a pinpoint assist from Méta Kandé. Just eight minutes later, Nguenar Ndiaye doubled the advantage, finishing confidently after a well-placed long ball from goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye.

DR Congo—returning to WAFCON after a 12-year absence—looked overwhelmed by Senegal’s intensity. Diop struck again in the 22nd minute, pouncing on a defensive lapse to slot home the third. The fourth arrived in the 40th minute, as Ndiaye nodded in a precise cross from Hapsatou Diallo, sealing a stunning first-half rout.
Second-Half Resistance
DR Congo improved after the break, with efforts from Flavine Mawete, Gloria Mabomba, and Naomie Kabakaba threatening to pull one back. Mawete even hit the post. Still, Senegal’s defence and goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye stood strong to preserve the clean sheet.
Group A Picture
With this result, Senegal lead Group A, ahead of Morocco and Zambia, who drew 2-2 in the tournament opener. DR Congo now face a critical next match to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
