NADMO has opened shelters across the capital as the Ghana Meteorological Agency warns of more heavy rain and high tides that could worsen flooding in low-lying areas
Emergency response teams continue to work through the night across Greater Accra as the death toll from catastrophic flooding rises to 13 and more than 70,000 residents remain displaced, with the Ghana Meteorological Agency warning of additional heavy rain and high tides that could worsen conditions.
NADMO, in coordination with local municipal assemblies and religious bodies, has designated several schools and religious centres as temporary safe havens providing food, clean water, and medical first aid. Safe-haven centres are open at the Adabraka Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Thomas Clegg Memorial Methodist Church near Kaneshie for residents from Adabraka and Central Accra. Evacuees from Weija-Gbawe are being directed to the Weija Municipal Assembly Hall and the Gbawe Methodist School. The Alajo 1 and 2 Basic School compound is operating as an active rescue camp for Alajo and Kotobabi residents. The Madina Social Welfare Center and the Adenta Municipal Assembly Model School have opened doors for displaced residents in the Lakeside and Nanakrom areas.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has issued an updated severe weather warning for the coastal zone and Greater Accra. An active convective rain-bearing system over the Gulf of Guinea is pushing inland, with intermittent heavy downpours, thunder, and strong winds expected overnight and into the early morning of Friday, July 3. High tidal waves along the Accra-Tema coastline will slow down the drainage of floodwaters from the Odaw River and Korle Lagoon into the sea, worsening flooding in low-lying zones.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid moving through flooded streets in the dark and not to attempt walking or driving through flowing water.
Emergency help is available through the following national hotlines: NADMO at +233 (0) 302 772 546 or +233 (0) 302 780 221, Ghana Police Service at 191 or 18555 (toll-free), and Ghana National Fire Service at 192.
According to a report by Accra Street Journal, the government has released GH¢300 million in emergency funds and deployed military personnel to reinforce rescue and evacuation operations.
