Zambia delivered the tournament’s biggest victory so far with a 6-0 demolition of Egypt, as captain Barbra Banda scored four second-half goals to secure all three points in Group C
Zambia brutally dismantled Egypt 6-0 at full-time today in their opening Group C match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The tournament’s statement matchup took place at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, where an unstoppable masterclass from captain Barbra Banda secured the tournament’s biggest victory so far.
Veteran Rachel Nachula calmly slotted a 25th-minute penalty to break the ice. The Barbra Banda Show began in earnest after the break, with the Orlando Pride striker delivering a historic individual showcase by bagging a sensational four-goal haul entirely in the second half (61′, 63′, 88′, and 90+6′). Rising talent Eneless Phiri marked her official WAFCON debut by blasting a long-range fifth goal late in stoppage time.

Zambia thoroughly strangled any counter-attacking efforts from Egypt, converting dominant territorial possession into six unanswered goals. The Copper Queens registered 11 shots, seven on target, while Egypt managed just two shots, one on target. Zambia completed 234 accurate passes to Egypt’s 102.
This 6-0 win stands as Zambia’s largest margin of victory in an opening match across all five of their tournament appearances. Despite Egypt absorbing massive pressure that led to 26 defensive interventions, the game proceeded with high sportsmanship, and referees completely avoided showing red cards.
Zambia’s emphatic victory puts them top of Group C, while Egypt will need to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
