Senegal secured a vital 1-0 victory over Kenya in their second Group A match at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, reviving their tournament campaign after an opening-day defeat while Kenya’s WAFCON winless streak extended to five matches
Senegal narrowly defeated Kenya 1-0 today, July 30, 2026, in their second Group A match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The hard-fought victory at the Rabat Olympic Stadium successfully revived the Teranga Lionesses’ tournament campaign following their opening-day defeat.
FC Metz striker Seynabou Mbengue scored the match’s only goal in the 35th minute, combining brilliantly with midfielder Ndeye Casset, who slashed inside from the left flank to deliver a pinpoint cross. The goal proved decisive despite Kenya’s second-half dominance.

Though Kenya dominated structural possession with 51 percent and created an abundance of high-quality chances in the second half, Senegal’s clinical finishing and the woodwork kept the Harambee Starlets at bay. Kenya registered 22 shots, 13 on target, while Senegal managed 21 shots. The woodwork denied Kenya three separate times, including an effort by Euphrasier Shilwatso that struck the crossbar.
The match was a highly intense, physically grueling contest, with both squads receiving one yellow card apiece to disrupt fast breakaways. The game finished without any red cards.
With this result, Senegal claims three vital points to stay alive for quarter-final qualification. Kenya, however, makes history for the wrong reasons, extending their streak to five consecutive defeats across their WAFCON history without ever securing a point. The Harambee Starlets’ wait for a first WAFCON victory continues.
