75 Per Cent of Funds Reserved for Women
The GWYESCO Loan Scheme will allocate 75 per cent of its funds to women, with the initiative aimed at empowering women and young people to establish businesses, become self-employed and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the launch in Walewale, SIF Chief Executive Officer Abass Adams Nurudeen explained that the scheme seeks to empower women and young people to earn sustainable incomes and live dignified lives within their communities, while reducing the need for young women to migrate to southern Ghana to engage in kayaye and other vulnerable forms of work.
He explained that President John Dramani Mahama had engaged the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Ministry of Finance to establish the loan scheme to provide access to credit and enable beneficiaries to establish and expand their businesses.
The initiative was designed to create economic opportunities for people who may not have access to formal public sector employment, particularly women and the youth,” he indicated.
Eligibility Requirements
Under the eligibility requirements outlined at the events, women will receive 75 per cent of the facility, while male applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old to qualify.
The scheme is expected to create opportunities for beneficiaries to access financial support to develop their businesses, strengthen their livelihoods, and contribute to local economic growth.
Registration Is Free — Beware of Fraud
Speaking at the Tamale launch on October 27, 2026, Mr Nurudeen emphasised that registration for the scheme is completely free.
He cautioned the public against paying anyone to register or gain access to the scheme, urging prospective beneficiaries to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities.
Supported by AfDB and Government of Ghana
The initiative, supported by the African Development Bank and the Government of Ghana, seeks to promote entrepreneurship, create jobs, strengthen livelihoods and enhance economic inclusion among women and young people.
The scheme has been rolled out across multiple regions, with beneficiary mobilisation and awareness creation forming a core part of the rollout in each district.
Political Confidence in SIF Leadership
The Member of Parliament for Wa West, who passed through the launch in Walewale, expressed confidence in the leadership of SIF CEO Abass Nurudeen, describing him as a passionate young Ghanaian who demonstrates integrity, dedication and consistency in his work.
