However, the historic evening was overshadowed by a severe leg injury to Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné, which sparked multiple brawls and resulted in two red cards for Qatar.

Canada dominated from the outset, holding 78 percent possession and registering 31 shots, ten on target, while Qatar managed just two shots. Canadian passing accuracy stood at 93 percent compared to Qatar’s 68 percent.
Cyle Larin opened the floodgates in the 16th minute. David added his first in the 29th minute and a second deep in first-half stoppage time. Qatar were reduced to ten men in the 33rd minute when Homam Ahmed received a straight red card for a last-man foul on Tajon Buchanan.
The match descended into chaos in the 53rd minute when Assim Madibo was dismissed after VAR upgraded a malicious tackle from behind. The tackle severely fractured Koné’s leg, and the midfielder had to be stretchered off in an air cast and rushed to a local hospital for emergency surgery.
Nathan Saliba, who had replaced the injured Koné, scored a spectacular curling free-kick just eight minutes later, celebrating by holding Koné’s number 8 jersey high to all four corners of BC Place. An unfortunate own goal by Qatar’s Mohamed Manai made it 5-0 before David completed his hat-trick in stoppage time.
According to a report by Accra Street Journal, David somberly refused to celebrate his third goal out of respect for his injured teammate. The result leaves Canada with four points from two games, virtually securing their progression into the tournament’s Round of 32.
