Authorities and stakeholders are focusing on long-term recovery, including financial support to help businesses rebuild and stabilize.
In a swift response to the devastating fire outbreak at Adum PZ and Blue Light in Kumasi, a total of GHC 600,000 has been mobilized to support affected traders. The emergency relief package, spearheaded by the Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, is expected to provide immediate assistance to the market fire victims as the businesses begin the difficult process of recovery.
Dr. Amoakohene, in a social media announcement, disclosed that the relief fund includes a GHC 500,000 donation from a philanthropic benefactor and an additional GHC 100,000 allocated for urgent support to traders who lost their livelihoods. The intervention aims to mitigate the economic impact of the disaster and offer a foundation for rebuilding their enterprises.

“Earlier today, alongside the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and the CEO of MASLOC, Madam Abigail Akwambea Mensah, we met with the leadership of the affected traders to assess the situation and extend our support,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
In addition to the financial aid, both the Gender Minister and the MASLOC CEO have pledged further institutional backing to help traders regain financial stability. The initiative aligns with broader government efforts to strengthen disaster resilience and safeguard local businesses against unforeseen crises.
The fire, which ravaged multiple shops and commercial properties, has left traders grappling with significant losses. While authorities continue damage assessments to determine long-term intervention measures, the immediate relief package will prioritize support for widows, single parents, and struggling entrepreneurs hardest hit by the tragedy.

President John Dramani Mahama also extended his sympathies to the victims, reaffirming his commitment to aiding their recovery.
“With collective action and solidarity, we will help our people get back on their feet,” Dr. Amoakohene assured.
