MTN Ghana has disclosed that it invests over $200 million annually in infrastructure, bringing its total investment to more than $1 billion over the last five years.
MTN Ghana is deepening its commitment to digital transformation through massive infrastructure investments, with the company revealing that it now invests over $200 million every year, and has pumped more than $1 billion into infrastructure development over the last five years.
The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett during a special engagement event dubbed “Time with Stephen”, held to mark his first anniversary at MTN Ghana.
He said the scale of investment reflects MTN’s long-term vision to provide world-class connectivity and support Ghana’s digital future.
“These are not just numbers, but, this level of sustained investment has played a key role in improving network performance, expanding coverage, and driving innovation across the country. It’s a major reason MTN remains the leading telecom and digital services provider in Ghana,” Mr. Blewett stated.
He said MTN Ghana’s performance has been impressive, with the company recording 28.4 million mobile subscribers, 16.4 million active data users, and 16.5 million active mobile money subscribers.
He credited this growth to operational excellence and the company’s focus on delivering superior customer experiences.
Alongside infrastructure development, Mr. Blewett emphasized MTN’s commitment to local digital innovation, highlighting the need to support homegrown tech talent and solutions.
“We need to develop more local digital products, by equipping individuals with digital skills and supporting entrepreneurs, we will unlock new opportunities and make meaningful contributions to Ghana’s digital economy,” he added.
A key project in this effort is the Ghana ICT Hub, launched in 2023 and expected to be completed by early 2026. The hub is designed to enhance Ghana’s ICT ecosystem in key sectors like health, agriculture, and education.
The CEO was clear in his expectations for the project: saying, “this hub should not become just another structure , it must serve as a real engine for innovation, talent development, and entrepreneurship.”
He also reassured customers that network quality would continue to improve as a result of these ongoing investments. “Our customers will notice real, tangible improvements in our service. That’s our promise,” he said.
Mr. Stephen Blewett, who joined MTN Ghana in April 2024, previously served as MTN Group Operations Executive overseeing several markets in West and Central Africa, and also held CEO roles in Benin and Cameroon.
