Tunisia Vs Japan: Japan Hit Four Past Tunisia in 1,000th World Cup Match as Ueda Brace Steals Show

Ayase Ueda scored twice and Daichi Kamada opened the scoring as Japan cruised to a 4-0 victory in the historic 1,000th match of World Cup finals history

Japan delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over Tunisia at the Monterrey Stadium on Sunday, with the match written into football history as the 1,000th game in World Cup finals history.

Japan entered the match following an opening 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, while Tunisia looked completely out of sorts. The North African side had sacked manager Sabri Lamouchi just days prior following a 5-1 thrashing by Sweden, hastily replacing him with veteran coach Hervé Renard. However, Renard’s introduction could not fix Tunisia’s defensive woes. They have now conceded nine goals in their opening two matches, leaving them on the brink of tournament elimination.

Japan opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Daichi Kamada tapped in from close range following an assist by Keito Nakamura. Ayase Ueda doubled the lead in the 31st minute with a powerful low strike from the edge of the area, assisted by Ko Itakura.

Junya Ito slid home a beautiful third goal in the 69th minute after chasing down a clever chipped pass over the defence by Ueda. Ueda sealed his brace in the 83rd minute, climbing high to place a looping header into the far corner off a Kaishū Sano cross.

Japan controlled possession with 57 percent and registered 10 shots, five on target, while Tunisia managed just three shots, one on target. Japanese passing accuracy stood at 91 percent compared to Tunisia’s 83 percent. Japan’s expected goals of 2.45 dwarfed Tunisia’s 0.01 at the 75-minute mark.

According to a report by Accra Street Journal, the result marks Japan’s fifth major meeting with Tunisia, with Japan now holding four wins to Tunisia’s one. It was the second time the two nations have met on the World Cup stage, following Japan’s 2-0 victory in the 2002 group stage. Ueda’s brace sets him up as one of Japan’s most lethal forward focal points in recent tournament history.

The match was incredibly clean and disciplined; the referee did not issue any yellow or red cards to either side during the 90 minutes. With the result, Japan move to four points in Group F, while Tunisia remain without a point and with a goal difference of -9.
