A Big Boost for Arteta’s Midfield
Zubimendi, 26, made 236 appearances for Real Sociedad since progressing through their academy and has featured 19 times for the Spanish national team. His arrival comes as Arsenal look to reshape their midfield following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the new signing with optimism:
“Martin brings a high level of football intelligence and quality. He’s exactly the type of player who fits our system and vision. I’m confident he will quickly become a key figure in our midfield.”
Zubimendi’s addition is expected to allow Declan Rice to push into a more advanced role alongside Martin Ødegaard, offering Arsenal increased dynamism in the middle of the park.
Arsenal’s Summer Business Picks Up Pace
Zubimendi becomes Arsenal’s second summer signing following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s move from Chelsea. The North London club are also reportedly close to sealing a deal for Christian Nørgaard of Brentford.
With Arsenal finishing second in the Premier League last season and reaching the Champions League semi-finals, the club is aiming to finally end a trophy drought that has lasted five seasons.
Reports suggest the Gunners are close to landing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, potentially solving the squad’s long-standing striker issue after injuries hampered Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz last season. Chelsea’s Noni Madueke is also believed to be on their radar.
