Arteta Defends Arsenal’s Handling of Thomas Partey Case Amid Legal Charges
Mikel Arteta has firmly defended Arsenal Football Club over its handling of matters related to Thomas Partey, the Ghanaian midfielder whose contract officially expired on June 30, 2025.
Speaking to the press, the Arsenal boss stated he was “100 percent” confident the club acted appropriately, even as Partey now faces serious legal charges, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault stemming from alleged incidents between 2021 and 2022.

Arsenal has remained largely silent on the matter due to ongoing legal proceedings. A brief club statement issued earlier to The Athletic and sighted by Accra Sports Journal (Via Accra Street Journal) simply confirmed the end of Partey’s contract and cited legal constraints as the reason for not offering further comment.
When asked whether the legal investigation influenced Arsenal’s decision not to renew the 32-year-old’s contract, Arteta avoided specifics, replying:
“The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of very complicated legal matters, so I cannot comment on any of that.”
Pressed again on whether he personally felt the club handled the case correctly, Arteta replied confidently:
“100 percent, yes.”
Thomas Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid and had been a key figure in midfield. His future in football is now uncertain as the legal process continues.
