The Managing Director, Mr. Faris Elias Attrickie, who brings nearly three decades of insurance experience to the role, including senior positions at SIC Insurance PLC and the Ghana Oil and Gas Insurance Pool (GOGIP) , has been a vocal advocate for customer-centric insurance practices. He has publicly encouraged Ghanaians to switch insurance providers if their current companies fail to meet their needs, stating that “many insurance companies have contributed to the erosion of trust in the system” and urging a shift toward companies that honour claims promptly .
Strategic Context: Tobinco Group’s Expanding Footprint
Priority Insurance operates as a subsidiary of the Tobinco Group of Companies, a diversified Ghanaian conglomerate founded by Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin. The Group’s portfolio includes pharmaceuticals (Entrance Pharmaceuticals), healthcare (Entrance Hospitals), education (Entrance University College of Health Sciences), media (Atinka Media Village), financial services (Abii National Bank), and real estate (Toblues Properties) .
The Tobinco Group itself has been growing rapidly, with its founder recently receiving the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award from the Ghana Manufacturing Awards . Dr. Tobbin has also been actively advocating for increased government support for the local pharmaceutical industry, including tax reliefs and restrictions on the importation of anti-malaria products to protect local manufacturers .
The new vehicles represent a tangible investment in expanding Priority Insurance’s reach and capacity to deliver its growing portfolio of products, which includes the “Home/Office 360 Insurance” policy—a micro-insurance product developed in partnership with iRisk Management Ltd. specifically designed for low- and middle-income earners . The company also recently launched a digital platform called “Snap Insure” to simplify the process for brokers and customers to access this policy .
Industry Context: Strengthening Customer Trust
The investment in new vehicles comes at a time when the Ghanaian insurance industry is working to rebuild public trust. The National Insurance Commission (NIC) Commissioner, Dr. Abiba Zakariah, has urged Ghanaians to report any insurance company that fails to honour its obligations . Mr. Attrickie has echoed this sentiment, advising customers to “change your insurance company if they’re not helping you” and emphasising that insurance is a “vital safeguard against life’s uncertainties” .
The new vehicles are expected to enhance Priority Insurance’s nationwide customer engagement efforts, reinforcing the company’s brand promise: “At Priority, your claim is our priority.
