Ghana’s economy expanded by 5.3% in the first quarter of 2025, marking its strongest Q1 performance in five years, according to Deloitte’s latest GDP Bulletin. The report, cited by Accra Street Journal, attributes the rebound to sectoral resilience, especially in fishing (16.4% growth), information and communication (13.1%), and finance and insurance activities (9.3%).
The services sector continues to anchor the economy, contributing 46.8% of GDP, followed by industry at 29.7% and agriculture at 23.5%. Top GDP drivers included crops (1.15%), gold (1.11%), and ICT (0.84%).
Deloitte remarked that Q1’s strong performance reflects “early signs of recovery underpinned by fiscal discipline, policy clarity, and sectoral reforms.”

While the mining sector saw a modest 1.4% expansion, the real GDP increase of 1.4% signals broad-based growth. Deloitte pointed to key policy actions such as the abolishment of the E-Levy and restructuring in the cocoa and energy sectors as catalysts.
However, Accra Street Journal notes that Deloitte also warned of risks that could threaten momentum, including inflation, forex volatility, and climatic shocks, particularly affecting agricultural productivity.
Looking ahead, Deloitte projects Ghana’s economy to grow by around 4% in 2025, supported by digitalisation initiatives, the IMF programme, and enhanced revenue administration.
To sustain this growth, the firm stressed the need for continued macroeconomic stability and steadfast policy execution.
