This Is Why NPP Lost The 2024 Election – According to BigGodwin, the founder of Websoft and a Facebook influencer, below are a couple of reasons for the loss of both the presidential and parliamentary seat in the 2024 election.

10 FACTORS THAT WORKED AGAINST NPP LEADING TO THEIR COLOSSAL LOSS

1. The Powerful 8 Years Cycle, a very difficult thing to break in Ghana, except you do something truly extraordinary and profound.

Bawumia Factor.

This Is Why NPP Lost The 2024 Election.

The fact that Bawumia is part of the current Government as Head of Economic Management Team and yet we are where we are, it was very difficult for this NPP to white wash Bawumia as totally different from his Boss – Nana. Because in the 2016 campaign, Bawumia took a lot of Bullets for the NPP touting himself as the economic solution.

NPP should have chosen 2 fresh candidates to convince the floating voters that, “We are sorry Nana disappointed you guys, but here are two new fresh candidates who would come and fix it, we present to you Hon Kennedy Agyapong and John Kumah as vice ”. And of course, those two fresh faces should never have been Napo – I will explain this more at a later point.

Nana’s own stubbornness in many instances.

E.g

a. We said we don’t want any Cathedral, stop it, you say lailai you go build am.

b. Your own Majority in Parliament said remove Ken Ofori Attah you said lailai, you kept him there.

c. You said there won’t be Haircut, but you were chief Barber even when old folks, pensioners were picketing and begging you. You refused and punished them by cutting off their pensions.

d. You said we won’t go to the IMF, we did. Breach of trust.

e. We said reduce Government size because of austere times. You said no.

f. Elevy, Bet Tax and co

Economy.

You can build 1000 Apps for digitization, it doesn’t fix the fundamental needs of the Ghanaian. Bread and butter issues. Exchange rates, inflation, food and fuel price hikes, unemployment Etc

Akyem Mafia factor.

Even within the NPP, power and resources revolved around just a very few closed circles. Nana, Bediatuo, Gabby, Ken and a few others. Finish! The rest of NPP were just decorative pieces.

The way the NPP treated some people affected them.

How they handled Alan’s case was poor. They wrote him off that he won’t have any impact. But the NPP’s mistake is that, even if Alan doesn’t get a lot of votes, he could cause low voter turnout and apathy, because Ashantis really really love Alan.

Most Ashantis would choose Alan over Napo, if not for anything, for his composure, demeanor, body language and respect. So Alan lovers may not step out to vote for the butterfly party, but they won’t vote NPP either, causing serious voter apathy and low turnout.

Another person they didn’t treat well is Prophet Owusu Bempah, he was strongly with them all through 2016 and 2020. Somehow, either they became power drunk or just felt invincible, they messed him up.

This factor can not and should not be underestimated. Some people truly have a voice in the Spirit Realm. And you can’t replace Owusu Bempah with Kusi Boateng even though they are both respected Prophets. The reason is that Owusu Bempah knows your keys and secrets because he was the one that stood by you spiritually for 2016 victory.

Lesson there is: Be careful how you treat a Benevolent Spirit that makes you powerful when you get to the top.

The Media Gag and lack of freedom of speech.

During Nana’s 8 year reign, many people were afraid of publicly showing their displeasure of this Government, for the fear of being victimized, attacked, vilified or threatened. So there was more internal anger to express that disaffection through the ballot box.

Some people forgive you easily if you allow them to rant and complain without being gagged. It is one of the many respites that John Mahama has enjoyed for this bounce back. In his time, people were able to rant and vent easily with many demonstrations. In Nana’s time, it wasn’t that easy.

Corruption.

The scandals were one too many. And for Nana who was touted in 2016 as anti corrupt and a human rights lawyer who was coming to set Ghana on the right trajectory of anti corruption, someone who said if you want to make money go to private sector, and yet his Governance was full of the worse versions of what he stood for. Floating voters were never going to forgive this betrayal of trust.

Other big deal issues such as Galamsey.

Nana lost the fight against Galamsey. He started it well, they were burning excavators and arresting people. Then along the line, He lost steam and the President who said he will put his Presidency on the line, became the general overseer of the biggest threat to aqua life and our marine resources till date.

The NAPO Factor.

This Is Why NPP Lost The 2024 Election.

It was already challenging that Bawumia was standing to break the 8 instead of a new face like Kennedy Agyapong or Kwabena Agyapong. The NPP kissed the Presidency goodbye when they chose NAPO as vice. It was the most difficult brand to market by any marketing genius.

Ghanaians naturally don’t like people that come across as rude or arrogant (note: I said “come across as”, meaning they don’t have to be in actuality). Napo’s body language, speeches, tone, demeanor and personality was a complete dent in even Bawumia’s campaign. Probably they realized it but it was too late, no wonder they didn’t let him speak at their final rally in Accra.

Most floating voters could not close their eyes and imagine Napo as President. It was too much of an abominable feeling. They should have chosen someone with some better brand appeal like Dr Adutwum, Dr Okoe Boye, John Kumah (RIP) etc. That would have looked better. But most floating voters were not going to choose Napo over Prof Jane, if not for anything, for body language, utterances and posture.

Conclusion

For me, BigGodwin, I think the Economy was the biggest determinant of this Election, aside all that I have highlighted. But JM won mostly on the mistakes of the NPP. NDC couldn’t market or communicate their message well, the 24 hour economy wasn’t properly explained or understood by most voters although I did understand it and it makes sense to me. But when people are tired of a misgovernance, even if the opposition has no message, they will choose it over the tyrannical incumbent!
