A KPMG/UNDP survey reveals 72% of Ghanaians support the 24-hour economy policy, viewing it as crucial for job creation ahead of the 2025 budget.

Ahead of the presentation of the 2025 main budget and economic policy under the new administration, a survey by KPMG and the United Nations Development Programe (UNDP) has revealed that the implementation of the flagship 24-hour economy is highly regarded by many Ghanaians as a viable strategy to create jobs.

Although the introduction of the flagship 24-hour economy campaign promise ahead of the 2024 Elections resulted in a heated debate over its viability, the recent pre-budget survey has revealed that Ghanaians are buying into the idea as a critical initiative to generate employment and reduce joblessness.

The survey was undertaken ahead of the crucial budget to gauge the public perception of the policy among other key issues expected in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

An overwhelming 69.3% of the respondents indicated that job creation is the main reason for supporting the initiative while just 7.9% also believed it could potentially increase productivity and efficiency.

However, only 9% of the respondents either disagreed or strongly disagreed with the potential of the policy to create employment opportunities.

“72 of respondents agree the policy will create jobs, with a combined 9% either disagreeing or strongly disagreeing,” portion of the report indicated.
