President John Mahama has called for peace, unity, and compassion as he joined thousands of Muslims at Black Star Square in Accra to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. Addressing the congregation, he extended heartfelt Eid greetings and reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive and harmonious Ghana.
A Call for National Unity and Progress
President Mahama underscored the significance of unity in building a prosperous nation. “National progress thrives in a peaceful and cohesive society,” he stated. “We must continue to work together to build a Ghana that benefits all citizens, regardless of background or faith.”
He urged Ghanaians to embrace the values of Ramadan—compassion, sacrifice, and self-discipline—beyond the festive period. “Let us carry forward the spirit of Ramadan by helping those who are less fortunate. It is through these acts of kindness that we create a more compassionate and unified society,” he emphasized.
President Mahama Called on Bawku to Give Peace a Chance
President Mahama also called on the people of Bawku to embrace peace and resolve their conflicts, emphasizing that the country’s progress hinges on peaceful coexistence. “Let us give peace a chance for the sake of our children and future generations,” he stated, urging all stakeholders to work towards lasting harmony in the region.
“On this celebration of Ramadan, I want to call on my brothers and sisters in Bawku to give peace a chance,” he added.
Empowering the Youth
Speaking directly to the youth, President Mahama highlighted the need for discipline, education, and resilience in the face of economic and technological challenges. “Our youth must equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive,” he said. “Ghana’s future is in your hands, and we need you to be both educated and disciplined to build a brighter future.”
Addressing Social Concerns
The President acknowledged concerns raised by the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, about street children. He assured the congregation of his government’s commitment to tackling the issue with urgency and compassion.
