In a significant move to bolster digital skills among Ghanaian youth, the government has partnered with Malfred Kwame Kudu, popularly known as Kwame Lighter, a Kumasi-based phone repair expert who gained national attention through viral videos showcasing his exceptional craftsmanship
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, announced the collaboration, which aims to establish a specialized training program through the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT. As reported by Accra Street Journal, this initiative seeks to leverage Kudu’s expertise to train and mentor young Ghanaians, positioning the country as a hub for technological innovation and practical skills development.
Malfred Kwame Kudu, a young mobile phone repairer, took social media by storm, capturing the attention and admiration of many with his exceptional tech skills.
The videos of Malfred recently flooded social media platforms, showcasing the impressive craftsmanship. The videos, which showed him assembling and customizing a phone, sparked excitement and awe across the digital landscape.

One of those captivated by the clips was none other than Minister for Communications Sam George. Moved by Malfred’s ingenuity, the Minister took swift action not just to applaud the young man but to empower him to change lives.
The young man was invited by the minister for an engagement. After recognizing his skill and knowledge and the possible impact he can have on other young people, the Minister has announced that the government has extended a formal partnership offer to the young tech genius to train and mentor other young Ghanaians.
“I was inundated with videos of his sterling work on a mobile phone. I reached out to him and was pleasantly stunned by his depth of knowledge and ability. Ghana is truly blessed,” Sam George shared in a post on social media.

The partnership, among other things, will include a training program at the prestigious Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, with Malfred at the helm of instruction.
“After engaging him, I have made him an offer on behalf of the government of H.E. John Dramani Mahama to partner and offer training to many more young Ghanaians. I have opened up the possibility of running a specialized program through the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT in partnership with Malfred,” the Minister added.
He added, “This would allow him to transfer knowledge at scale and help position Ghana as a truly technology diverse Country. I look forward to a truly mutually beneficial partnership.”
