Mr. Abubakari, a seasoned marketer and digital transformation advocate, delivered comprehensive modules on the role of digital tools in streamlining motor insurance processes, from underwriting and claims management to fraud detection and real-time verification of policies.
“Digitalization is not optional anymore—it is fundamental to the survival and competitiveness of insurers in Ghana, especially in the motor segment where inefficiencies still dominate claims and verification processes,” he stated during his opening remarks.
He emphasized the role of mobile applications, Digital Transformation in insurance, emerging technologies for policy verification, and data analytics as critical technologies that can reduce premium leakages, enhance transparency and claims process, and build public trust in the insurance ecosystem.
Ghana Insurance College’s Role and Stakeholder Participation
The training was supported by the Ghana Insurance College, reinforcing its mandate to build the capacity of professionals across the industry. Representatives from insurance companies, underwriting firms, brokerages, and digital startups were present.
Participants engaged in practical workshops and group discussions aimed at identifying pain points in motor insurance administration and aligning them with digital-first solutions.
“The future of motor insurance is digital, and it starts with stakeholder collaboration,” Mr. Abubakari said, highlighting the importance of standardized data platforms and digital customer onboarding experiences.
Certification and Industry Outlook
The two-day program concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants. According to feedback gathered on-site, attendees expressed satisfaction with the depth of insights shared and the relevance of the training to their daily operations.

With the motor insurance segment accounting for nearly half of industry premiums, the emphasis on digital transformation is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance regulatory compliance, and position Ghana’s insurance market as a more agile and innovative space.
“This is a long-overdue revolution in how we do business. Salifu Abubakari’s practical insights gave us a roadmap,” said one participant from a top-tier insurer.
A Strategic Pivot for the Sector
The event reinforces a broader industry push—led by the National Insurance Commission (NIC)—to drive digitization, policyholder protection, and financial inclusion. With increased demand for instant policy validation, especially in road safety and law enforcement contexts, digital platforms are becoming indispensable.
As Ghana navigates a rapidly changing insurance environment, thought leadership from professionals like Mr. Abubakari, combined with institutional support from entities like the Ghana Insurance College, are likely to shape the future of motor insurance in Ghana.
