Ghana made history for the wrong reasons, failing to record a single shot on target for the fourth consecutive game at this tournament. The Black Stars’ blunt attack, missing the creative influence of the injured Mohammed Kudus, offered little threat to the Colombian defence.

Luis Díaz thought he had doubled Colombia’s lead in the 56th minute, but his goal was chalked off by VAR for offside. Colombia fielded the second-oldest starting lineup in World Cup knockout history, averaging 30 years and 344 days.

The match became the first in World Cup history where both teams made tactical or injury-related substitutions before the 15th minute. Ghana’s Marvin Senaya was forced off in the 12th minute, while Colombia’s Jhon Córdoba exited in the 8th minute.
