World Bank Supports Ghana’s Ambitious Plan to Create 500,000 Youth Jobs Each Year

The World Bank has pledged its support for Ghana’s initiative to generate over 500,000 jobs annually for the youth, aiming to tackle unemployment and boost economic growth.

The World Bank has pledged its support to Ghana’s efforts to tackle youth unemployment by partnering on a new Growth and Jobs Strategy aimed at creating opportunities for the over 500,000 young people who enter the country’s job market each year.

The commitment was announced after a high-level meeting between the World Bank‘s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, and Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, at the Bank’s headquarters.

Under the proposed strategy, the World Bank will work closely with Ghana to develop and implement initiatives focused on job creation, skills training, and inclusive economic growth.

“This initiative reflects our shared priority of unlocking opportunities for young people,” said Bjerde. “We are proud to work with Ghana on a strategy that will create jobs and build a stronger, more resilient economy.”

Dr. Forson welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a critical step in addressing Ghana’s employment challenges. “This partnership is a major step forward in our efforts to provide decent and sustainable jobs for our youth,” he said.

The Growth and Jobs Strategy is expected to be a cornerstone of Ghana’s broader development agenda, with a strong focus on equipping the country’s growing youth population with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in an evolving economy.
