In the heart of Accra, within the premises of Ghana’s premier military medical facility, stands the 37 Military Hospital Nursing & Midwifery Training College (37 NMTC). Established in July 1941 as the Nursing Orderlies’ Training Wing, the institution has evolved into a beacon of excellence in nursing and midwifery education in West Africa.
A Historical Pillar in Medical Training
The inception of 37 NMTC coincided with the establishment of the 37 Military Hospital, marking the beginning of a concerted effort to train competent nursing personnel for the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services. In 1984, the college received approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana to run the State Registered Nursing (SRN) Programme, positioning it as the fourth professional nursing college in Ghana, following Korle-Bu, Komfo Anokye, and Agogo Presbyterian.
Comprehensive Programs for Diverse Healthcare Needs
Today, 37 NMTC offers a range of programs tailored to meet the dynamic needs of the healthcare sector. These include:
-
Registered General Nursing (RGN)
-
Registered Midwifery (RM)
-
Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC)
-
Post-Basic Programs in specialized fields such as Nurse Anesthesia and Critical Care Nursing
The college’s curriculum is designed to blend rigorous academic instruction with practical clinical experience, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to deliver quality healthcare services.
Strategic Location for Optimal Clinical Exposure
Situated within the Neghelli Barracks on Liberation Road, Accra, the college benefits from its proximity to the 37 Military Hospital. This strategic location provides students with unparalleled access to clinical rotations and hands-on training in a variety of medical disciplines.
Upholding Discipline and Excellence
As a military-affiliated institution, 37 NMTC instills a culture of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in its students. These values are integral to the college’s mission of producing healthcare professionals who are not only clinically competent but also ethically grounded.
Community Engagement and National Impact
