The Ghana Stock Exchange recorded one of its busiest sessions of the week on Wednesday, as more than 2.7 million shares valued at GH¢10 million changed hands. Yet, the surge in market activity failed to prevent the main index from slipping.
The GSE Composite Index fell 112 points to 7,303.81, down from 7,416.16 the previous day. The dip highlights investor caution despite robust trading momentum.
Market capitalization also edged lower, closing at GH¢149.54 billion, compared with GH¢151.12 billion at the start of the week.

Trading volumes have shown a marked progression. Activity was muted on Monday with just 421,000 shares traded, picked up modestly on Tuesday, and then spiked sharply mid-week.
Individual stocks reflected mixed fortunes. Ecobank Transnational (ETI) lost ground, dipping to GH¢0.79, while Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) gained modestly to GH¢2.21. MTN Ghana (Scancom PLC), the most heavily traded equity, slipped to GH¢3.85 after sustained activity.
The week’s trading paints a picture of a market flush with liquidity but tempered by investor wariness, as participants weighed corporate earnings, global headwinds, and domestic policy uncertainties.
