Ghana’s Sulemanu Tetteh recorded a split decision (3-2) victory over Marte de la Rosa Rodrigo of the Dominican Republic in the Flyweight division to book a spot in the round of 16 of the Tokyo Olympics boxing event.

The Black Bombers captain started slowly but gradually warmed himself into the fight, winning the last two rounds after falling behind in three of the five judges’ scorecards in the first round.

Tetteh showed great composure and technical ability, with quick movement and targeted punching, to eventually overpower his opponent on Monday morning.

Three of the five judges scored in favor of Tetteh, while two scored for Rodrigo.

The London 2012 Olympian, Tetteh, progresses to the Round of 16 and a step closer to the medal zone.

The next Ghanaian boxer in action will be Samuel Takyi against Jean Carlos Pachito Caicedo of Ecuador on Wednesday July 28 at 04:06GMT.
