Ghana’s Rose Yeboah Shines in Women’s High Jump

Ghanaian high jumper Rose Yeboah Amoanimaa thrilled the home crowd at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday evening, successfully defending her African Games title in the women’s high jump event.

The 22-year-old leapt to a height of 1.90 metres, surpassing her previous personal best at the Games of 1.84 metres achieved five years ago in Rabat in 2019, to claim the gold medal.

Olympic Qualification Still Pending

Despite her outstanding achievement, Yeboah is yet to secure a spot for the Olympic Games. She attempted the qualifying mark of 1.97 metres but narrowly missed on her third attempt at 1.94 metres, falling short by just 0.03 metres.

Podium Finishers

Finishing behind Yeboah were Balley Fatoumata of Guinea, who cleared 1.81 metres for silver, and Darina Hadil Rezik of Algeria, who took bronze with a jump of 1.78 metres.

Ghana’s Medal Tally

Her triumph adds to Ghana’s impressive haul at the ongoing African Games, bringing the nation’s gold medal count to 10 and the overall medal total to 47, further solidifying the host nation’s strong performance in Accra.
