In a thrilling women’s final at the 13th African Games, Ghana staged a remarkable comeback to claim victory over their long-standing rivals, Nigeria, and secure the coveted gold medal on Thursday, March 21.

Facing an early setback when Nigeria took the lead with a goal from Edeh Njideka, Ghana’s Black Princesses displayed resilience and determination.

Despite Nigeria’s strong start, Ghana gradually gained momentum, spurred on by the passionate support of the crowd at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Tracy’s timely equaliser in the 77th minute showcased Ghana’s fighting spirit, setting the stage for an intense battle.

As the game progressed into extra time, Ghana capitalised on Nigeria’s fatigue, seizing the opportunity to take the lead.

Mukarama’s decisive strike from outside the box propelled the Black Princesses to victory, clinching the gold medal in a memorable triumph.

Nigeria’s search for a leveller proved abortive as coach Yussif Basigi’s charges put in a  determined performance coupled with their strategic display to wind down the clock, ultimately secured their triumph in this historic clash, solidifying their status as champions of the 13th African Games.
