Manchester United Confirm Signing of Paraguayan Teen Talent Diego Leon
Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Diego Leon, an 18-year-old left-back from Paraguay’s Cerro Porteno, adding youthful energy and promise to their defensive line under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Leon, who played 33 matches and netted four goals for Cerro Porteno, expressed his excitement ahead of boarding his flight to England from Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asunción.
“This is what I dreamt of as a child,” said Leon. “I’m going to smash pre-season and be playing with the team within one or two games.”

The transfer deal, worth $4 million, was finalized in December 2024, with the agreement that Leon would officially join the Premier League club in July 2025, upon turning 18.
Known for his attacking instincts and pace, Leon now becomes the latest South American prospect to land at Old Trafford. With pre-season training already underway, Amorim is expected to integrate the left-back quickly into the squad.
The signing reflects United’s renewed focus on youth recruitment, and Leon is expected to compete for first-team minutes this season as the club continues its squad rebuild under Amorim’s leadership.
