Ayanfuri, Ghana — Perseus Mining Ghana Ltd. (PMGLC), the operator of Ghana’s Edikan Gold Mine, has announced a major leadership transition that places Ghanaian executives at the helm of its operations, signaling a deepened commitment to local talent development and long-term growth in the country’s gold sector.
Effective July 1, 2025, Daniel Egya-Mensah, the mine’s current General Manager, will ascend to the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer of PMGLC. The move forms part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen corporate governance, deepen stakeholder engagement, and drive Edikan’s next phase of production and sustainability targets.
“The foundation of our long-term success lies in the strength of our people,” said Jeff Quartermaine, CEO and Managing Director of Perseus Mining Limited, in a statement. “We are proud to empower a generation of Ghanaian leaders to shape the future of our operations.”

Elevating Local Leadership, Strengthening Operational Continuity
Mr. Egya-Mensah brings over 25 years of industry experience, having held senior technical and operational roles at Newmont, AngloGold Ashanti, and Teberebie Goldfields. Since joining Perseus in 2023, he has overseen Edikan’s steady delivery on production targets, cost efficiency, and safety metrics — critical indicators in an industry increasingly scrutinized for ESG performance.
In his new role, Daniel will lead the company’s national strategy, managing high-level partnerships and ensuring operational alignment with Ghana’s evolving mining policies.
Replacing him as General Manager of Edikan is Alexander Kofi Oduro, previously the site’s Mining and Technical Services Manager. With 17 years of mining expertise across Ghana and Australia, Mr. Oduro is recognized for streamlining mine planning and delivering digital transformation in resource management. His elevation signals a strong internal succession pipeline at PMGLC.
Also promoted is Amatus Niminye, formerly Mine Operations Superintendent, who now becomes the new Mining and Technical Services Manager. With a track record in leading greenfield projects and pioneering sustainable blasting techniques, Mr. Niminye is expected to bring both innovation and precision to Edikan’s mining output and environmental management.
A Strategic Pivot Amid Global Industry Trends
Industry analysts say Perseus Mining’s internal restructuring reflects a wider shift in Africa’s extractives sector, where local content laws, talent localization, and community accountability are becoming central to investor and regulatory frameworks.
Perseus underscored this trend by announcing that 100% of Edikan’s management and workforce are Ghanaian nationals, aligning with government expectations for economic inclusion in resource governance.
“These appointments are not just symbolic. They reflect a deliberate transition towards sustainable, locally rooted operations,” said a mining analyst familiar with Perseus’ expansion in West Africa.
With gold prices hovering near decade highs and Ghana maintaining its position as Africa’s top gold producer, Edikan remains a core strategic asset in Perseus Mining’s portfolio.
What’s Next for Edikan?
Located in the Ashanti Gold Belt, Edikan has become a reliable performer in Ghana’s mid-tier mining sector. As Perseus enters a new operational cycle, its priorities include extending mine life, deepening stakeholder partnerships, and deploying digital tools to maximize yield and environmental compliance.
The company’s leadership changes come at a time when investors are increasingly evaluating mining firms on metrics beyond output — including how well they develop talent, respond to local expectations, and reduce environmental impact.
With a fully Ghanaian executive team now in place, Perseus Mining signals its intent to lead not just in production, but in shaping the next-generation standards of Ghana’s mining industry.
