The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) ended Monday’s trading session on a quiet but positive note, with the market buoyed by gains in just two equities — Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) and Ghana Oil Company (GOIL).
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) advanced by 1.96 points to close at 7,348.65, extending its year-to-date rally to over 50%. Meanwhile, the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) held steady at 3,409.46, reflecting subdued investor interest in banking and financial equities.
Thin Trading, Strong Market Cap
Despite the modest uptick, overall trading volumes remained muted. A total of 239,052 shares, valued at GH¢706,541.34, exchanged hands during the session. Market capitalization nevertheless climbed to GH¢149.93 billion, signaling cautious optimism among investors.

Analysts say the muted turnover reflects a consolidation phase for the market after weeks of strong gains, with investor sentiment holding firm but activity focusing on selective counters.
CPC and GOIL Provide the Lift
Two equities drove the day’s performance:
-
Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) surged from GH¢0.02 to GH¢0.03, a 50% gain, albeit on thin volumes of 7,970 shares worth GH¢239.10.
-
Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) edged higher from GH¢2.26 to GH¢2.27, up 0.44%, with 7,261 shares worth GH¢16,482.47 traded.
All other listed equities closed unchanged, highlighting how narrowly concentrated the session’s momentum was.
Market Outlook
Monday’s session showed a market balancing strong year-to-date gains with near-term caution. While the GSE indices remain on track for one of their best yearly performances in over a decade, momentum is currently being shaped by selective buying rather than broad-based investor activity.
