Historically, Tarkwa was part of Ghana’s Western Rail Line connecting the mining towns to the ports. As of now, passenger rail service is limited and undergoing rehabilitation. While there have been pilot passenger services between Takoradi and Tarkwa, full Accra–Tarkwa rail connectivity is not yet available. Travelers may need to combine rail (Accra–Takoradi in future phases) with road transport until full restoration is complete.
By Private Car or Ride Services
A private trip from Accra to Tarkwa by car takes 5–6 hours via the Accra–Cape Coast–Takoradi highway, then branching inland toward Tarkwa. This option offers more flexibility and comfort but is costlier when fuel and tolls are factored in.
