Saudi Arabia nearly broke the deadlock just before halftime, but Cabo Verde’s 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha expertly denied Mohamed Kanno’s looping header. Mohammed Al-Owais came to Saudi Arabia’s rescue in the 74th minute, stopping an entirely free point-blank one-on-one blast from substitute Laros Duarte.
Deep in stoppage time, Abdullah Al-Hamdan found space for a late Saudi winner, but his shot landed straight into Vozinha’s grateful gloves.
Cabo Verde finished with 15 shots, three on target, while Saudi Arabia managed six shots, three on target. Both sides held near-even possession, with Cabo Verde at 51 percent and Saudi Arabia at 49 percent.
