Asante Kotoko pulled off a spirited comeback to defeat arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 and claim their ninth President’s Cup title in a thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Despite going behind in the 27th minute due to a rare error by goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, the Porcupine Warriors rallied strongly in the second half to overturn the deficit and walk away champions.
Hearts drew first blood when Hamza Issah capitalised on Camara’s spilled cross, calmly slotting into an empty net to give the Phobians a first-half lead. Though Kotoko responded with attacking intent, they trailed at halftime.

The turnaround began immediately after the break. Peter Amidu Acquah made a driving run down the left flank and delivered a ball that deflected off Konadu Yiadom into the net, bringing the score level at 1-1.
Just a minute later, Kwame Poku put Kotoko ahead with a tap-in from a square pass, punishing Hearts’ disorganised defence.
Poku had the opportunity to double his tally in the 74th minute after an excellent low cross from Albert Amoah, but he failed to connect.
Hearts of Oak fought back and had a goal ruled out for offside before being awarded a late penalty. However, Mohammed Camara, eager to make amends for his earlier mistake, made a crucial save from Emmanuel Amankwah’s spot-kick.
Despite some late pressure from Hearts, they couldn’t find a way back, squandering more chances in the dying minutes.
At full time, it was Asante Kotoko who held firm to clinch a memorable 2-1 victory and their ninth President’s Cup title — adding yet another chapter to their storied rivalry with Hearts of Oak.
