The Netherlands bounced back from their opening-day draw with a brutal 5-1 demolition of Sweden at NRG Stadium in Houston, virtually guaranteeing themselves a spot in the Round of 32 knockout stages.
Ronald Koeman caused a pre-match stir by dropping Crysencio Summerville to start Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey. The decision proved to be a stroke of tactical genius. Brobbey used his immense physical strength to torment the Swedish centre-backs from the opening whistle, slotting home from close range in the 5th minute and tapping in a second at the 17th-minute mark to put the Oranje up 2-0.

According to a report by Accra Street Journal, eight of the eleven starters in Koeman’s tactical sheet play their domestic club football in the English Premier League. The final moments brought concern for Koeman as Gakpo was seen applying heavy ice to a wrist problem, while Summerville took an accidental blow to the head during stoppage time.
