The Kampala tournament forms part of Rugby Africa’s revised 2026 competition structure and serves as the African qualifier for the 2027 World Rugby SVNS 3. The tournament winner will secure Africa’s qualification place for the 2027 SVNS 3 competition.
For Ghana, the Eagles face a demanding opening day, beginning against neighbouring West African rivals Nigeria before taking on Zimbabwe.

Ghana will then face Morocco in their remaining Pool A fixture.
The tournament brings together some of the continent’s established rugby nations, with Uganda also carrying the added responsibility of hosting the competition on home soil.
The hosts will compete in Pool B against Zambia, Tunisia and Senegal, while Zimbabwe enter Pool A under new coach Fortunate Chipendu.
The tournament has been described by participating unions as an important opportunity to strengthen African rugby and secure a pathway into the international sevens calendar.
With only two days of competition and qualification at stake, Ghana’s Eagles will need to negotiate a tightly packed schedule against three different opponents.
For the Ghanaian side, the immediate challenge begins on September 26 with Nigeria, followed by Zimbabwe — two matches that could shape their route through Pool A and determine their prospects of reaching the knockout stage.
As the Eagles settle into Kampala, attention now turns to Kyadondo, where Ghana and seven other African nations will begin their pursuit of a place on the global rugby sevens stage.
